As valued customers and users of Wales National Pool Swansea (WNPS) we want to bring you up-to-date on the position with swim time for clubs and swimming session availability.
You are likely to be aware that recently we’ve been forced to change our timetables and cancel swim sessions, sometimes at very short notice. We want to apologise to you for this.
It’s been very unfortunate that we’ve had to cancel sessions because there’s not been enough lifeguards to provide full cover poolside.
As you might have seen in the media, leisure industry recruitment has been a major issue since the end of the pandemic and we are affected by this too. In addition, lifeguarding shortages is a UK-wide issue which we are addressing through a recruitment drive and a training programme.
We anticipate the first group of new lifeguarding recruits will be joining us next month and this action will help ease the cancellation issues. In addition to that, we are running a lifeguarding course in July, from which we hope to recruit further lifeguarding staff.
We know it is frustrating when a swim session is cancelled at short notice and we want to reassure you that when we do so, it’s a decision we don’t take lightly.
However, we can’t compromise on your safety. If there are not enough lifeguards available to provide appropriate cover to keep swimmers safe, the right thing to do is cancel the session.
You can help us by checking for the latest information about our timetable before you set out for your visit to the pool.
