The physical and mental benefits of going to the gym are much more rewarding than the actual hard work of going there and putting in the time and effort it takes to get lean or build muscle. However, exercising regularly can feel like a chore if you’re not feeling motivated. So, if you have lost some of your motivation, maybe it’s time to rejig the routine? Well, we’re here to remind you that there are many ways to get that motivation back! Here are 5 top tips to stay motivated in the gym:

  1. FIND YOURSELF A GYM PARTNER

It can be easy to avoid the gym if you rely on motivating yourself to get up and go. But if you have a gym partner who is committed to going regularly, whether that’s a friend, family member, or colleague, the chances of you going will increase. What’s more, you will have someone else to spur you on! If you have a potential gym partner in mind and they aren’t a Swansea Bay Sports Park member, click the following link as entitled to a Concession membership.

Please remember to take a break when you feel like it. It is okay to have a day or couple of days off to prioritize other forms of self-care that make you happy

2. MAKE AN UPBEAT PLAYLIST

Nothing gets you in the gym mood like a decent playlist with some upbeat music. Make a Spotify playlist and get song recommendations based on what you add to the playlist. Some new beats might motivate you to break a sweat. Alternatively, if you’re not a fan of Spotify, you can search YouTube for a ‘Best Gym Playlist 2022’ and see if any of those songs tickle your fancy. If you’re not sure where to start and would like us to provide some song inspo, check back soon for our upcoming blog as we’ll be posting our staff top picks for your next gym playlist!

3. BOOK A GYM CLASS

If all you do at the gym is run on the treadmill and lift weights, it can become monotonous and reduce the likelihood of visiting regularly. By booking onto a variety of classes such as our in house Evolve fitness classes, including spin, HIIT, Pilates, yoga, and more, you will find new ways to stay fit, meet new people, and improve your physical and mental well-being. If you haven’t attended a gym class before and feel a bit nervous, do not hesitate to speak to a member of the SBSP team – we’re more than happy to help answer any gym or class-related queries!

4. PUT A MOTIVATING PHOTO ON YOUR PHONE

Most people take their phone to the gym to keep track of the time, listen to music and sometimes take some progress pics. If you lose motivation / feel like giving up early, having a motivating photo on your phone might help to remind you to keep going during cardio or when doing sets. This will remind you of why you’re putting in all the work! Find a photo of something or someone that motivates you, whether it’s a fitness guru or celebrity with a physique or mindset you aspire to have, a motivational quote, friends, family members – essentially anything else that sparks motivation in you. This can work wonders!
